Our Drug-Abuse Awareness Training is workplace employee substance abuse deterrence education at its very best.  Why?  Because your supervisors and managers learn how to 'recognize' the symptoms of a drug-abusing employee...plus they learn how to approach the employee in a non-confrontational manner, and they learn when it is appropriate to order "reasonable suspicion" drug testing in a legally-defensible manner. This training will help eliminate employee drug-use in your workplace AND it can also help protect your company from a possible wrongful discharge lawsuit.


FACT:  One of the most valuable and effective types of drug tests - yet, usually the least utilized by most companies - is the "REASONABLE SUSPICION" drug test.  That is...until their company's supervisors and managers undergo our Substance Abuse Awareness Training!

NOTE:  Companies that have had their supervisors and managers undertake our drug-abuse awareness training have shown increases as high as 3-4 times of the number of employees tested each month due to legitimate "reasonable suspicion".  And, the test results of those employees their supervisors/managers have ordered tested...are coming back "positive" for one (or more) drugs, as much as 86.4% of the time.  Obviously, our Substance Abuse Awareness Training works.  It will save your company in down time, absenteeism, lost production, theft, and Workers' Compensation  claims!


WHY the most valuable?  By the time a supervisor or manager has sufficient “reason” to suspect drug use by one or more employees, they are most often right!  But, they are also too often too late to resolve the situation BEFORE it becomes a workplace crisis!  Educating your supervisors and managers in the recognition of substance abuse “indicators” (physical, mental, behavioral) symptoms and how to follow a legally defensible procedure for doing a “reasonable suspicion” drug test is the most effective method to preventing a drug-related crisis in your workplace!  

WHY THE LEAST UTILIZED?  Approaching an employee and expressing a suspicion of drug-use is uncomfortable for most managers.  In fact, it is so uncomfortable for some managers that they become "enablers"-  i.e., they will "look the other way", time and time again.

nless your managers are properly trained and thoroughly prepared, then very certainly they are unsure of “what” to do, “how” to do it, and “the words” to use if they did.  Therefore, some managers will simply ignore the situation.  By NOT taking action, your managers then essentially become “enablers”- actually “helping “ the employee to continue their workplace drug-abuse.  How?  Because the employee that continues to be “unchallenged” also continues to use drugs.
 

HOW OHS, Inc. HELPED SOLVE THIS CHALLENGE FOR A FORTUNE 500 COMPANY:  OHS initially created our e-mail based “on-line” Drug-Abuse Awareness Training and Certification Program for Carnival Cruise Lines Corporation.  Carnival needed to quickly and effectively train their 119 Ship’s Captains, Staff Captains, and other Officers while they were all aboard their ships and still out on the world's oceans!  Our solution?  We created an e-training program. 

Our e-training system incorporates:  (a) comprehensive, yet easy-to-understand substance abuse awareness “e-training” for your managers, and (b) the provision to your managers of a set of three (3) “Action Packs”.  The Action Packs are used for the three separate action steps taken by your managers to take action AND to properly document their “reasonable suspicion” in a method (a very important one) that is legally defensible!
 

We designed our “Awareness” training to convince even the most reluctant supervisor or manager (i.e., those who "don't believe" in drug testing or who do not consider it "their problem" to address) of the serious need to curb drug-use in your workplace.  Further, our training underscores to your managers their special responsibility to your company as a manager to be diligently active in that process for you, their employer.  Key to this training, your managers will learn the substance abuse physical factors and other “indicators” that will help them to easily identify a drug-abusing employee in the “early” stage- BEFORE a workplace crisis situation occurs. 

All e-training, study, quizzes, and quiz scoring is handled “one on one”…and individualized by delivery through each manager's personal e-mail (or your company’s e-mail) for maximum learning effectiveness and their own convenience. 

Quizzes are graded by OHS, Inc. and returned via email, as well.  Finally, a follow-up phone call to the manager/student can be made to discuss each of the questions and to add new insight to each of the answers.   OHS, Inc. then provides a “Certificate of Completion” to the newly trained manager, a copy of which is kept by you in their personnel file. 

The set of three “Action Packs” we have created for this program clearly and easily lead your supervisors/managers step-by-step through the exact intervention (“action”) steps necessary with a suspected drug-abusing employee for each one of what are recognized as the “Three Stages of Drug Abuse”.

The Action Packs CLEARLY define for your supervisors or managers HOW to prepare, WHAT to say, WHAT to document – i.e., the appropriate action to take at each one of the three stages of drug-abuse.  Each of the Action Packs also reinforce the knowledge your managers gained during training and helps give them the confidence necessary to be more “comfortable” with an otherwise uncomfortable situation! 

Each action pack SET includes:  (1) Preparation sheets that guide the manager on how to prepare for meeting with the employee; (2) Documentation sheets with the actual words to use and questions to ask, space for documenting responses, and instructions on how to arrange the completion of a reasonable suspicion test; (3) two test specimen cups and CUSTODY AND control Forms for your manager to authorize a specimen collection at a clinic (or to do it themselves) and route the test results through OHS, Inc. to your office. 

THE RESULT OF THIS TRAINING:  Your expertly trained and Certified supervisors and managers become  enabled AND empowered!  They will have the knowledge necessary to take action and the confidence needed to help protect your company from the dangers that drug-using employees create. 

Companies that have initiated this special training program have shown increases of 300-400% in performing "reasonable suspicion" tests, and, the test results of employees they have ordered tested are coming back "positive" for one or more drugs, as much as 86.4% of the time.

COST:  Training is $65 per manager trained/Certified ($55 ea. for 5-9 mgrs. and $45 ea. if 10 or more are trained).  Lower rates are available for companies with 25 or more managers to train.

Action Packs are "Optional": (A set of three Action Packs, two of which include a Custody and Control Form (CCF), a specimen collection cup, and a pre-paid overnight-to-the-lab shipment bag) are optional at $25 per set.  (If you use a provider other than OHS, Inc. for your drug testing program management, you will NOT need these $25 kits.)  If OHS, Inc. is your Drug-Free Workplace administrator, the lab analysis, GC/MS or TLC confirmation of positives, and MRO services for “Reasonable Suspicion” drug tests sent to the lab will be priced at your same, pre-established
OHS, Inc. contract rate for a standard drug test.
